Welding Classes in Fort Worth

HOBBY WELDING
CLASSES.

The only hobby welding classes in the DFW area. MIG, TIG, and Stick welding for beginners — no experience needed, no multi-week commitment, no career path required. Just hands-on welding skills you can use this weekend.

Why Hobby Welding Classes Near Fort Worth?

If you search for “hobby welding classes near me” you’ll get a list of colleges and technical schools offering multi-week programs designed for career welders — costing thousands of dollars. But what about those who just want to be weekend welding warriors?

That’s why the Tarrant County Makerspace started teaching welding in May of 2022. Since then, over 200 students have taken our classes. Their reasons vary — farm repairs, custom furniture, art projects, van builds — but there’s consistency in why they end up here: there just isn’t anyone else teaching welding to hobbyists in the DFW area.

Our classes are single-session, hands-on workshops where you’ll actually weld — not watch PowerPoint slides. You’ll have an experienced instructor looking over your shoulder, helping you make the adjustments necessary to lay that perfect bead.

Everywhere I looked only offered lengthy programs. Being able to take a basic welding 101 class from an experienced welder was a great experience for me to see if I wanted to pursue this as a hobby. The grill you helped me build is awesome!

Hobbyist — MIG Weekend

We signed up for Aaron's weekend 6-hour crash course. He provided clear, easy-to-understand explanations and we assembled and welded our own small metal grill to take home. A rare and unusual experience in the DFW area.

Weekend Crash Course

I did my first welding project here. Aaron is a great instructor — I was looking for someone to teach me for my garage setup. The grill project and clear directions gave me all the confidence I needed to get started.

My grandson and I took this class together. The classes are small — two or three people — so you get plenty of personal instruction. We had a great time. A perfect start to welding projects around home.

Aaron taught us how to perform the welds and we practiced before starting the project. He guided us the whole way through building a charcoal grill. I learned a lot and it was a genuinely fun class.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Do I need any experience to take a welding class?
None at all. Every class is designed for complete beginners. We've taught dozens of students since 2022, most starting with zero welding knowledge.
Which welding class should I take first?
If you're brand new, start with MIG — it's the easiest to learn. Our Saturday crash course covers all three processes in one day, which is a great way to find out which you enjoy most.
What do I need to bring?
Just long pants (thick cotton or denim) and sturdy leather footwear — work boots or solid leather shoes. Skip the sneakers: most have mesh that can melt if a spark lands on them. We provide welding helmets, gloves, and all PPE. If you have your own gear, feel free to bring it.
Can I bring my own welder to class?
Absolutely! Many students come specifically because they're having trouble with their own equipment. We'll troubleshoot issues, dial in your settings, and make sure your machine is working properly.
How many students per class?
We cap weekday evening classes at 2 students and weekend classes at 3. This ensures you get plenty of one-on-one time with the instructor.
What's the difference between your classes and welding school?
Welding schools offer multi-week programs designed for career welders and cost thousands. Our classes are single-session, hands-on workshops for hobbyists, DIYers, and weekend warriors who want practical skills without the time or financial commitment.
